Max Lucado is pulpit minister of Oak Hills Church of Christ in San Antonio, Texas, and the well known author of 37 books since 1985.

Lucado's Oak Hills Church teaches an unbiblical unconditional love/acceptance gospel quite characteristic of feelings-oriented churches. They state: "At Oak Hills We Teach ... LOVE -- We are a family of believers who accept each other because God has accepted each of us." Lucado makes it quite clear that doctrine will not stand in the way of unity at Oak Hills: "While avoiding entanglement in the creeds and traditions, we make a diligent effort to follow Christ. The original followers of Christ (the first century church) provide an inspiring model of lifestyle, worship, doctrine, and organization that, in principle, is to be followed in our century."

Lucado also teaches the Church of Christ's false doctrine that salvation comes only after baptism (baptismal regeneration).

The following quote came from the Oak Hills Church of Christ official web site . . . updated 7/15/95; copied 7/12/96; and re-verified 2/98. (The Oak Hills Church pulled this statement from their web site in 1999, apparently due to complaints from evangelicals, and replaced it with a rather generic statement.):
"It is necessary to respond to God's free offer of salvation by faith, repentance, and baptism. As we confess Christ as our Lord and are baptized by immersion, God meets us, forgives our sins and gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit that empowers each of us."

Baptism is necessary for salvation is the definition of baptismal regeneration. Also Lucado said the doctrine of eternal security is not an issue in the church, and his elders and people are free to accept it or reject it. Anyone who believes that a born again child of God can lose his salvation simply does NOT understand the Gospel. See our article: www.hisservants.org/once_saved,_always_saved_h_s.htm

Lucado says some awful, blasphemous, unfeeling things about our precious Jesus, when He was in the Garden of Gethsemane, just before He went to the cross. In his book, No Wonder They Call Him the Savior (Multnomah, 1986:199pgs.), see the following statement (pp. 131-132): "Now, look into the picture. Look closely through the shadowy foliage. See that person? See that solitary figure? What's he doing? Flat on the ground. Face stained with dirt and tears. Fists pounding the hard earth. Eyes wide with a stupor of fear. Hair matted with salty sweat. Is that blood on his forehead? That's Jesus. Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. ... Does this look like the picture of a saintly Jesus resting in the palm of God? Hardly. ... We see an agonizing, straining, and struggling Jesus. We see a 'man of sorrows.' We see a man struggling with fear, wrestling with commitments, and yearning for relief."

What absolute blasphemy! It seems in Lucado's attempt to help us identify with the "human side" of Jesus, he has actually rewritten the Bible's account of Jesus in the Garden. He seems to be picturing a sinful Jesus . . . another Jesus (2 Cor.11:4).

The Bible tells us not to fear, but to trust God (Heb.13:6) . The Bible tells us that greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). The Bible tells us that perfect love drives out fear (1 John 4:18). The Bible tells us to be anxious for nothing (Phil.4:6; 1 Pet.5:7).

IF Jesus agonized, strained, struggled, wrestled, and yearned, as Lucado says, and if He fell into a stupor of fear as Lucado insinuates, then Jesus would have sinned and could NOT possibly have been the God and Saviour that He claimed to be . . . and that is downright blasphemy! Lucado sees "another Jesus" . . . NOT the Jesus of the Bible! NOT the Jesus that I know! Fear is sin! Fear is NOT trusting God. Jesus did NOT sin, ever ! (Isa.53:9; Heb.4:15; 7:26; 1 Pet.2:22).

Does Lucado considers the Gospel of Jesus Christ essential? He must not . . . because there is NO way to join together with Roman Catholics who add works to Christ's finished and completed salvation! Lucado says, "The sin of disunity causes people to go to Hell!" (No chapter and verse was given.). "The step to unity is acceptance and no longer to speak evil of one another. Would it not be wonderful not to be known as either protestant or Catholic? This is a God-sized dream and no one in our generation has ever seen the Church united."

This is not a "God-sized dream"; it is the exact vision of the Harlot that John saw and recorded in Revelation 17.

Lucado and the Promise Keepers are really confused about the church. The "church" is NOT all the supposed "Christian" denominations. The church is a local body of baptized believers organized according to the apostolic model for the fulfillment of the Great Commission (Mat.28:19). This is the TRUE church which is the pillar and ground of the truth (1 Tim. 3). To define the "church" as the denominations and to call for all to "stand together" is utter confusion and nonsense! Today's denominations are much closer to the Harlot of Revelation 17 than to the church of Jesus Christ.

Are we to apologize for warning people of false gospels, false baptisms, false spirits, false Christs, false views of the church and false views of Scripture? NO way! Are we to apologize for warning of sin and worldliness and compromise? Absolutely NOT! IF we do NOT warn, we are NOT TRUE Christians! I have spoken against many Christian false teachers and false doctrines, and groups and denominations, because God commands me to do so. I am to teach the Truth AND to expose error (2 Tim.4:1-6). I refuse to apologize for obeying God. By God's grace I shall KEEP on exposing error until the Lord takes me Home. And I shall name names and state the error and the sin.

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; (KJV)

Max Lucado is a false teacher, who teaches the Church of Christ's false doctrine that salvation comes only after baptism. Lucado deceitfully claims that he doesn't believe in Baptismal Regeneration; yet he teaches that water baptism is essential to being saved..."Baptism effectively seals our salvation." "In baptism God signs and seals our conversion to him."

"It is necessary to respond to God's free offer of salvation by faith, repentance, and baptism. As we confess Christ as our Lord and are baptized by immersion, God meets us, forgives our sins and gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit that empowers each of us."

Lucado falsely teaches that water baptism is an initial sign of being saved. There is NO such teaching in the Bible. "True believers not only offer their sins, they yield their wills to Christ. Baptism is the initial test of a believing heart."

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. (KJV)

This clearly tells us WHY the Apostle John wrote his Epistle . . . so that we could KNOW that we have eternal life. Does John mention "baptism"? NO, not even once!

As a result of Lucado's deception, gullible churchgoers have embraced Lucado's heresies. "Christians" (?) of all denominations have embraced Lucado's work. His teachings are dangerous. He is actively corrupting America's churches. Any minister who promotes acceptance of the damnable Catholic religion is of the Devil. The Devil is using ecumenical ministers to promote sinful compromise between believers and the unsaved. The Holy Word of God commands us to divide . . . to separate . . . over Truth, NOT to be united by error . . . or compromise!

2 Corinthians 6:14-18 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? [15] And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? [16] And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. [17] Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, [18] And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. (KJV)

America is over run by apostate ministers of unrighteousness . . . false teachers.
These deceitful, smiling, happy-go-lucky, imposters who claim to be proclaiming God's message. The truth is, that they are serving themselves, making millions of dollars from the ignorant public. In John 5:39 Jesus commanded us to search the Scriptures! Very few people obey His command to do this, especially false teachers! These evil wolves preach about love, joy, and forgiveness; but they NEVER mention sin, God's righteous wrath, Hellfire, judgment or repentance. SO . . . their loyal flocks never search the Scriptures to find the Truth!

Today's new, modern emergent churches wrongly preach forgiveness without repentance. There can be NO salvation unless a person repents. A person must come to the knowledge that God is right and they are wrong. They must admit that they are sinners and realize they are guilty before God (Rom.3:19). They must realize that they are condemned by God's Law and rightly deserve the penalty of Hell.

Repentance is causes us to turn to the Lord Jesus Christ to save us from our sins. If a person is truly saved, a changed life should follow (2 Cor. 5:17). So many people today claim to be "Christian" . . . but the truth is, they are still headed for Hell. Just because a person says: "I'm a Christian" and goes to church does NOT make them a TRUE child of God! They have religion . . . NOT salvation!

All these preachers who Satan promotes are really good at tickling "itching ears" 2 Tim. 4:3). Max Lucado is an ear-tickler, just like Joel Osteen and Rick Warren. They tell people what they want to hear: soft, feel-good sermons of health, wealth and prosperity. The Truth of the Bible has very few friends today. Modern preachers talk much about the word "truth" . . . but they speak nothing but deceit.

It is wrong for Max Lucado or anyone else to teach that baptism "seals our salvation." Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, (KJV)

According to the Bible, each believer is sealed with the Holy Spirit after they truly BELIEVE. Baptism is NOT mentioned. Water baptism does NOT seal our salvation! The Holy Spirit, Who comes to indwell us at the time of salvation, He seals us! IF you search the Scriptures, you will NOT be led astray by false teachers such as Max Lucado.

Some things that I have learned about Lucado when I did research on him, I will not put here. I simply do NOT like this man's attitude toward our Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ.
