THE UNIVERSAL NATURE OF SIN

The most important part of sin that EVERY person must understand and admit, is the universal nature of sin. The Bible is clear and unmistakable on this. EVERY person has sinned and stands guilty before God! There are NONE that doeth good! NONE! Consider the following verses which speak on this subject:

Psalm 14:1-3 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. 2  The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. 3  They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. (KJV)
Psalm 53:1-3 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. 2  God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. 3  Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. (KJV)
Isaiah 59:4-7 None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity. 5  They hatch cockatrice' eggs, and weave the spider's web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper. 6  Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands. 7  Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths. (KJV)
Romans 3:9-10 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; 10  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: (KJV)
Romans 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. (KJV)
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (KJV)
James 2:10-11 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. 11  For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. (KJV)
1 John 1:8-10 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10  If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (KJV)

THE CONSEQUENCES OF SIN

There are three separate parts of the consequences (results) of sin:

#1. The PENALTY of sin which refers to the very REAL moral debt that EVERY person carries as a result of sin;
#2. The POWER of sin which refers to its enslavement and corrupting power, which are sinful thoughts, attitudes and actions can produce in the human heart;
#3. The PAIN of sin which refers to the misery and heartache that are caused in the lives of those trapped by the enslavement and corrupting power of sin.

When considering the PENALTY OF SIN, we come in contact with three words: death, separation and condemnation. The Bible tells us that God warned Adam and Eve that if they disobeyed Him, that the result would be death (Gen.3:3). Although the serpent assured Eve that she would not die, the end result was in fact the curse of death.
Genesis 3:17-19 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
18  Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; 19  In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return
. (KJV)  . . . Adam listened to his wife, and ate the fruit of the forbidden tree. THAT was willful SIN!

God warned Adam and Eve warning of the consequences of sin, and it proved true as the curse of death was pronounced upon Adam along with hardship in the pursuit of his daily needs (Gen.3:17-19, above). It was soon after, that God drove Adam out of the garden and away from the tree of life (Gen.3:24).

WHAT is the curse of death? Adam no longer experienced the intimate fellowship with God that he once knew . . . as a new sense of separation from God would be experienced by him.

The prophet Isaiah spoke on God's behalf to the nation of Israel, and highlighted the separation from God that is caused by sin.
Isaiah 59:1-2  Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: 2  But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. (KJV) . . . Isaiah spoke these words to Israel . . . BUT . . . they also apply to us today. God has NOT changed His Mind about sin! Sin separates us from God! The condemnation and separation from God that sin causes is very real. BEWARE!!!

THE POWER OF SIN

The Bible teaches that thoughts, attitudes of heart and actions which are sinful can eventually make us slaves to sin and destroy us. We do not need to look very far! In the world today, sin is becoming more and more rampant day by day.

Millions today are enslaved to alcohol and drugs (legal and illegal). Millions more are enslaved to sexual lust and pornography and only God alone knows how many criminal sexual acts are done by the result of wicked minds and hearts that have been poisoned by the devil. Many are controlled by anger and hate that drives them to destructive acts of violence.
Proverbs 5:21-23 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings. 22  His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins. 23  He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray. (KJV)
Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: (KJV)
Matthew 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. (KJV)
John 8:34-36 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35  And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. 36  If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (KJV)
Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (KJV) . . . God has NOT changed His Mind about sin! The power of sin makes you its slave. Sin separates us from God! The condemnation and separation from God that sin causes is very real. BEWARE!!!

THE PAIN OF SIN

Just as Eve was deceived about the consequences (results) of sin, millions today deceive themselves into believing they will be able to somehow escape the pain and unhappiness that sin will bring. They are WRONG! God says so! The Bible proves that countless lives have been damaged or ruined pursuing things which God in His Word has definitely warned man NOT to do!

Consider that the Bible forbids drunkenness, but many pursue some foolish desire to escape life's responsibilities indulge in excess with alcohol. The result is pain and misery. The examples of the pain and misery that sin brings to life are too numerous to record.
Drunkenness, Warnings: (Deut.21:20; Pro.20:1; 23:20,29-31; 31:5; Ecc.10:17; Isa.5:11; 28:1,7; Nah.1:10; Hab.2:15; Mat.24:49; Lk,21:23; Rom.13:13; 1 Cor.5:11; 6:10; Gal.5:21; 1 Thes.5:7; 1 Pet,4:3)

Isaiah 1:4-5 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward. 5  Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. (KJV)
Isaiah 57:20-21 But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked. (KJV)
Proverbs 12:21 There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief. (KJV)

The realities of sin could lead to despair if that were the end of the story . . . BUT . . . thank God that in His love, mercy and grace, He has made a provision to enable us to overcome every aspect of sin. The Bible clearly tells us what God the Father has done for us in and through His Son Jesus Christ so that we may find victory over this enemy of man we call sin.
John 3:15-18 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18  He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (KJV) . . . Do YOU believe God? Have YOU accepted what Jesus did on the cross for you? If not, why not?
