HIS SERVANTS' MINISTRY

www.worldlychaos.org

Welcome to our website

Because God is righteous, sin must be punished.

God is merciful, but God is also righteous. Sin must be punished. God cannot ignore sin no matter how loving and kind He is for to do so would deny one of His attributes . . . His righteousness.

Psalm 95:7-11 For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice, 8  Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 9  When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work. 10  Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways: 11  Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest. (KJV)

This Passage teaches two very important truths: (1) a condition that results in sin, and (2) that there are consequences for sin.
Verse 7 is really more than a call to just hear the words, it is a call to obey God’s voice. The Hebrew verb translated as hear has a wide scope and includes understanding. To hear is to #1. listen to, and pay attention, #2. To obey. #3. To understand

For us today, this verse calls for obedience to what God’s Word says to us. Sin is opposing God’s Word, and it begins when one hardens their heart. A hardened heart does NOT hear, does NOT obey God’s voice, and this is actually rebellion toward God.

Rebellion toward God relates to the stubborn (stiff-necked) subjects of the Lord. Like rebellious oxen, calf-worshiping Israel quickly turned aside from the Lord’s service (Ex 32:9). The spirit of Israel remained (for the most part) stubborn, intractable and non-responsive to the guiding of their God (Ex.32:9; 33:3,5; 34:9; Deut.9:6,13; 10,16; 31:27; Judg. 2:19; 2 Chron.30:8; 2 K.17:14; Neh. 9:16; Ps.75:5; 78:8; Isa.48:4; Jer.17:23; Eze.2:4; Zec.7:11-12) and of His Holy Spirit (Acts 7:51).

Verses 8-9 refer to the event recorded in Exodus 17:1-7. God had delivered the people from Egypt, but they kept complaining about the lack of water. God gave instructions to Moses:
Exodus 17:6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. (KJV) . . . Here, the people experienced God’s blessing. Yet, at the first sign of need, they began to grumble against Moses. By this, the people demonstrated a lack of trust in God to supply their needs. What about us???

Referring to Verses 10-11 of Psalm 95, the consequences for their sin were significant because God caused them to wander in the wilderness for forty years.
To apply this to us today, failure to hear God’s voice can result in a life that contains much more pain and suffering than is necessary. While there is forgiveness for sin and eternal life, there may not be a total elimination of the consequences of sin during one’s time on Earth.

While sin-based consequences for a follower of Jesus is bad, what is much worse is the final judgment of an unbeliever on Judgment Day. Does the prospect of an eternity in Hell cause you to rethink where you stand with respect to God? NO one has to go to Hell!
