Is There Really Victory Over Sin?
1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. (KJV)
God tells us that with every temptation, He always has a way of escape. NO one has an excuse to sin. All Christians go through the same types of temptations throughout our lives. The Bible teaches that we always have a choice, to do right or wrong.
Hebrews 2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. (KJV) . . . Gratefully, there is always help available from the Lord Jesus, Who Himself, was also tempted. The Greek word for “succour” means “to aid or relieve.” It simply means to help. Jesus completely understands the irresistible power of temptation. IF we submit ourselves unto God and resist the devil as the Bible teaches (Jam.4:7), he will flee from us. Temptations will come and go all through our lives; but Jesus Christ is: “the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” (Heb.13:8).
James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. (KJV) . . . Blessed is the man that endureth temptation . . . this means anyone who endures and bears up under it, and is not offended by it, and does NOT stumble in the ways of Christ, and fall away from the Truth.
Many who profess to be "Christians" often are offended by things that come their way. Instead of standing up bravely under it, they sink under the weight of it, or faint because of it. A TRUE Christian endures temptations by NOT complaining and is quiet and still, bearing them patiently and enduring to the end (Mat.24:13; Heb.6:15).
We are to expect afflictions, and when they come, and they shall come, we are to withstand them, and continue in the ways and work of the Lord. Only then can we rejoice, now and hereafter. Saints are to rejoice under afflictions, and even because of them, for they are really tokens of God's love to us, proving our sonship (1 Cor.11:32; Heb.12:5; Rev.3:19).
He shall receive the crown of life . . . eternal happiness is called a "crown", because of the glory of it.
Which the Lord hath promised to them that love him . . . this promise He made before the world began (Eph.1:4; 1 Tim.1:9; Tit.1:2), who cannot lie, cannot deceive, and who is able to perform ALL that he has promised! God is faithful, and His faithfulness will NEVER fail . . . so that this happiness is certain! We can depend on it!
God Does NOT Tempt Us
Temptation can be testing under trial, as we saw in verse 12. Temptation also can be seducing us to do evil, as seen in verses 13-14. James now will talk about temptation to do evil. People often say that the Lord tested them when it was NOT the Lord at all. God cannot be tempted with evil, nor does He tempt anyone with evil. People often blame God for many things that He is NOT responsible for.
James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: (KJV) . . . We cannot irreverently cast the blame of our sins on God, trying to clear self. It will NOT work! Here James uses the word "tempted", in a different way than he did before. Before he speaks of temptations as matter of joy and boasting, but here, temptations are sinful and could end in shame and death. The temptations before were to be patiently endured, making men happy, but here temptations are to be denounced and watched against. Before temptations were the means of trying and exercising grace, but here temptations lead to sin.
When he is tempted . . . SO many things can tempt us. Each person is tempted differently, by whatever it is, where we are weak.
I am tempted of God . . . we are NEVER to say we are tempted by God. That is NOT true. We are neither told by God to sin, nor forced into it by Him.
For God cannot be tempted with evil . . . God cannot do anything that is unrighteous or evil in any way! Do NOT try to blame God for your sin! If you fall under a temptation, it is YOUR sin, NOT God's sin!
Neither tempteth he any man . . . God does NOT seduce or force you to sin! He is NOT the author of sin.
It is natural that mankind blame God for his own faults, failures and filth. From the beginning, this has been true. Adam said, "...The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat" (Gen.3:12). Adam really passed the buck! The woman did the same thing; she said, "... The serpent beguiled me..." (Gen.3:13). Actually, all three of them were responsible. Every one of us are guilty of our own sin, yet we always try to blame someone else!
James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. (KJV) . . . James now shows us the biggest cause of sin . . . our own LUST! Lust has a bigger part than either the devil or any of his instruments. Satan CANNOT make us sin! He can tempt us in our weakness, but in the end, it is all in OUR hands! We can either give in to sin OR stand firm and say NO, I will NOT sin!
We are talking here about the sins of the flesh. WHO is responsible when YOU are drawn away and do evil? YOU! WHO is responsible when you yield to evil temptation? YOU! God is NOT responsible. The Devil is NOT responsible. YOU are responsible.
We learn three divine truths from this passage of Scripture:
#1. Our love for Jesus should cause us to want to live right, and keep His commands.
#2. God never tempts anyone to do wrong.
#3. We sin because we want to, by yielding to our own lusts.
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. (KJV) . . . James 1:12 clearly states that those who love the Lord will make every attempt to live a righteous life in the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus does not want to help us live right; He wants to live the Christian life through us, IF we will simply yield to the Holy Spirit and not quench Him (1Thes.5:19). We cannot go through any temptation alone and make it. Those who fail to pray and read their Bible are telling God: “I can do it myself.” Dear friend, NO one can make it on their own without God. You need the Spirit of Christ to guide you (John 16:13), teach you (John 14:26), and comfort you (John 16:7; 14:18). Thank You Jesus! The Holy Spirit is the Godhead living within us, indwelling the body of every believer. If a person does not have the Holy Spirit within them, they are not TRUE Christians (Rom. 8:9). They Are NOT saved.
So many false doctrines! NO ONE can live above sin. The Holiness Movement is of the devil. This actually teacesh that a believer can rise above the flesh and live without committing any sins. Dear one . . . THAT is ridiculous and absolutely NOT Biblical (1 John 1:8,10).
The apostle Paul sinned, see what he said about his sins:
Romans 7:14-24 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? (KJV)
Paul admitted that sometimes he sinned; even though he was a saved, born-again, believer! But do you see just how much those sins grieved Paul? WHY? Because the Holy Spirit convicted him, and Paul did NOT want to sin. This lies is in sharp contrast to the unsaved world who reject Jesus Christ and do NOT care anything at all about doing what pleases God.
We should not condemn people for their sins, God alone can and will do that . . . but we should speak up against the pride of the wicked who make a spectacle of their sins up and down America's streets, and worse, teaching children that sin is OK.
EVERY Believer Battles with Sin
The apostle Paul tried to live right, but at times, he utterly failed, just as ALL believers do.
Proverbs 24:16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief. (KJV) . . . No matter how much a TRUE Christian tries not to sin, there will be times he/she will lose the battle. The word “falleth” accurately means to trip, or stumble. This is the believer who tries to please God by living a holy life, but fails, tries again, fails again, tries again, but fails again, etc. In my humble opinion, I think that this pleases the Lord NOT because we fail, but that we keep getting back up and trying again. I broke horses for many years, and any time I got dumped when they bucked me off, I got right back on again.
As long as we are living in this carnal flesh, we will endure the constant spiritual struggle between our sin-nature and the Spirit of Christ which indwells every believer (Rom.8:9).
The second word “fall” means to quit, or walk away. This is the person who deliberately and willingly commits sin, and tries to justify their wickedness: everyone is doing it; times have changed, are just two of their excuses! For instance . . . . This is the spouse who files for divorce. He/she quit, and was seeking greener pastures. This what the heathen world does. The Bible tells us to hang in there doing right for God (Mat.24:13; Lk.18:1; Heb.10:35-39).
I am a woman, but I think that the women's liberation hog-wash has brainwashed American women today. The wicked world hates God's authority, and any authority ordained by God, that man is head over the woman.
Only the Bible Can Keep Us from Sin
Psalm 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. (KJV)
Psalm 37:31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide. (KJV)
Psalm 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart. (KJV)
Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. (KJV)
Psalm 119:97 O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. (KJV)
King David had memorized God's Word, hiding it in his heart, to help him gain victory over sin in his personal life.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (KJV) . . . What a powerful Book! There is NO Christian magazine, book, no daily devotional that can even begin to compare to the power that is in the Bible! Only God’s Words can keep us from sin! Only God’s Word can give us victory over sin!
Sin is what Keeps Us Away from the Bible
Psalm 1:1-6 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. (KJV)
Psalm 26:4-5 I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers.
5 I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked. (KJV)
Psalm 36:4 He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil. (KJV)
Psalm 119:115 Depart from me, ye evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God. (KJV)
Psalm 146:9 The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down. (KJV)
Proverbs 1:22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? (KJV)
Proverbs 3:34 Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly. (KJV)
Proverbs 19:29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools. (KJV)
David had learned a very painful lesson from the horrible sins he had committed (adultery and murder). David's own family turned against him. David's kingdom fell into ruin. David's sons were killed. Bathsheba's child died. David was an old man, broken and tired, as he writes the Psalms. David finally realized that it was God whom he has sinned against. He had broken the Ten Commandments. All of us have broken Jesus’ law to us (Mat.22:36-40), be it in our heart and mind or by actual deed. Only God's Law will keep us from sin, if we fear God enough to obey Him.
Matthew 22:36-40 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (KJV)
God Will Hold Believers Accountable for the Good and the Bad Done in the Body
Some teach that Christians should not worry about the sins in their life, because God would not be harsh to believers in Heaven. First of all, we CANNOT enter Heaven with any sin (Rev.21:8,27; 22:15). Any sin or any good we have done shall be taken care of at the Judgment Seat of Christ.
God is angry with the wicked every day (Ps.7:11). As a pure and holy God, He hates sin with a passion, and will NOT let anyone's scornful attitude about sin go by without condemnation. If we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged (1 Cor.11:31) . . . BUT . . . IF we do NOT judge ourselves, then we absolutely WILL BE JUDGED! Judging ourselves means dealing with the problem before God has to deal with it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad (2 Cor.5:10). EVERY person will be held accountable by God on Judgment Day. We would be wise to confess and forsake our sins now, rather than face the judgment of a furious God on Judgment Day because of our arrogant disobedience.
As you search the scriptures (John 5:39), when a certain Bible Passage touches your heart, meditate on it and memorize it. I am not a fan of any of these modern corrupted Bibles. I have studied them and they are in my mind, the devil’s work! I will stay with the inspired and preserved King James Bible.
Think about this: When is the last time that you heard a sermon on Hell? There are just a meager FEW fire and brimstone preachers left in America today! If you have been blessed to hear one, I can almost guarantee that that preacher is a faithful man of God who still preaches from the King James Bible. Those so-called new bibles are for damnable New Evangelism, which is simply a sinful compromise with the devil! Neo (new) evangelism does NOT go publicly soul-winning, as the Bible teaches Mat.28:19-20. New Evangelism is simply another gospel (2 Cor.11:4; Gal.1:6-8), which is a damnable heresy (2 Pet.2:1), a falsehood of Satan, and which preaches another Jesus (2 Cor.11:4). BEWARE!!!
So many churches today operate like demonic cults, meeting behind closed doors and then rushing to MacDonald's after church to gossip about each other. The New Testament Church in the book of Acts went out into the highways and hedges (Luke 14:23), urging people to get saved. No matter where the early Christians went, one of two things happened: revival or riot! They were persecuted, prosecuted and many were martyred because they preached the Jesus of the Gospel. Far too few today are preaching the Jesus of the Gospel! The government has joined in on this and made it a LAW that the Name of JESUS is NOT to be spoken! How utterly ridiculous! For it is ONLY JESUS that can save a soul from HELL! (John 14:6; Acts 4:12).
