Sin . . . What are God's Rules?

There are three Sources of Sin:
1. Thoughts: anger; bitterness; coveting; envy; hatred; lust; malice; resentment; etc.
2. Words: are your thoughts put into effect. They are like a weapon. Words spoken can NEVER be retrieved! BEWARE!!! Words bring strife and contention.
3. Deeds: Deeds also are thoughts put into action. BEWARE! Bad deeds are sin.

If a definition of sin is breaking God's rules, then what are His rules? What are God's moral standards of conduct? There are ten basic rules:

#1. Exodus 20:2-3 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (KJV) . . . God is your Creator. He commands that He be the focal point of your affection. If you love your life, possessions, spouse, children, or vocation (ANYTHING) more than your Father in Heaven, you have something else as your god! BEWARE!!! He wants to be #1 in your life!

#2. Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: (KJV) . . . You shall not make a god, either with your hands or your mind. NO graven images like those in the Catholic Church! BEWARE!!! That is idolatry.

#3. Exodus 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. (KJV) . . . You shall NOT use God's Name as a curse word, or use it lightly, or fail to give it honor. When anyone uses God's Name to curse, they use His Name to express disgust. BEWARE!!! That is blasphemy.

#4. Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. (KJV) . . . The Bible says, "Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God." Most people break this law.

#5. Exodus 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. (KJV) . . . God does not command us to honor our parents because they deserve it. We all are sinners. We are to honor them out of obedience to God.

#6. Exodus 20:13 Thou shalt not kill. (KJV) . . . If you kill, unless it is self-defense, you sin.

#7. Exodus 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery. (KJV) . . . Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.(KJV)

#8. Exodus 20:15 Thou shalt not steal. (KJV) . . . If you steal (anything), you sin!

#9. Exodus 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. (KJV) . . . Gossip can be a form of false witness! BEWARE!!!

#10. Exodus 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. (KJV) . . . You are not to covet ANYTHING that your neighbor has! BEWARE!!!

We ALL have sinned and deserve God's judgment. God, the Father, sent His only begotten Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. JESUS is the Creator and the eternal Son of God (John 1:1). He lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead, according to the Bible. If you sincerely believe and trust this FACT, when you accept Jesus as your Saviour, and declare as Peter did, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God (Mat.16:16), you will be saved from condemnation to Hell (John 3:18), and shall spend eternity with God in Heaven. Thank You Jesus!
