SATAN’S
ACTIVITIES
Satan
receives much assistance from his demon followers
by planting false Christians among the true ones.
Matthew 13:24-30 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom
of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good
seed in his field: [25] But while men slept, his
enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and
went his way. [26] But when the blade was sprung
up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the
tares also. [27] So the servants of the householder
came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow
good seed in thy field? from whence then hath
it tares? [28] He said unto them, An enemy hath
done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou
then that we go and gather them up? [29] But he
said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares,
ye root up also the wheat with them. [30] Let
both grow together until the harvest: and in the
time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather
ye together first the tares, and bind them in
bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into
my barn. (KJV) This parable
represents the present and future condition of
the true church; Christ’s care of it, and the
devil’s hatred of it. It shows us the mixture
there is in it (good and bad) in this world, and
that they shall be separated in the other world.
Though good and bad are together in this world,
at the great day they shall be parted. The righteous
and the wicked shall then be clearly known; whereas
here, it is sometimes hard to distinguish between
them.
The
devil seeks to devour ALL God’s children!
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary
the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking
whom he may devour: (KJV) Lions attack sick,
young, or animals that stray away from the herd.
They choose victims who are alone or not paying
attention to what’s going on around them. Peter
warns us to watch out for Satan when we are suffering
or being tried or persecuted. Often we feel alone,
weak, helpless, or cut off from other believers,
and we focus on our troubles, forgetting to watch
for danger, and we are especially vulnerable to
Satan’s attacks. Always keep your eyes on Jesus! James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to
God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
(KJV)
The
devil falsely accuses ALL God’s children.
Rev. 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven,
Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom
of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which
accused them before our God day and night.
(KJV) I believe that Satan still accuses us before
God, but I also believe we have an Advocate in
Heaven (1 John 2:1). Our Advocate is much more
powerful than Satan (1 John 4:4).
Satan
rules ALL the unsaved world.
John 12:31 Now is the judgment
of this world: now shall the prince of this world
be cast out. (KJV) Satan is an
angel who rebelled against God. Satan is real,
not symbolic, and is constantly working against
God and those who obey Him. Satan tempted Eve
in the garden and persuaded her to sin; he tempted
Jesus in the desert but did not persuade Him to
fall (Mat.4:1-11). Satan has great power, but
we can be delivered from his reign of spiritual
darkness because of Christ’s victory on the cross.
Satan is powerful, but Jesus is much more powerful.
Jesus’ resurrection shattered Satan’s deathly
power (Col. 1:13-14). To overcome Satan we need
faithful loyalty to God’s Word, determination
to walk with Jesus and stay away from sin, and
the support and prayer of other believers.
2 Cor. 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded
the minds of them which believe not, lest the
light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is
the image of God, should shine unto them.
(KJV) The Gospel is revealed to everyone, except
those who refuse to believe. Satan is "the
god of this age." His work is to deceive.
He has blinded those who don’t believe in Christ
(2 Cor. 11:14-15). The appeal of money, power,
fame and pleasure blinds people to the light of
Christ’s Gospel. Those who reject Christ and choose
things of this world have unknowingly made Satan
their god.
Ephes. 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to
the course of this world, according to the prince
of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh
in the children of disobedience: (KJV) Satan
may have control of many things now. But Satan
is only the temporary ruler of the part of the
world that chooses to follow him. Jesus Christ
is the permanent ruler of the WHOLE world. In
the resurrection, Christ was victorious over Satan
and his power. Those who reject Christ and follow
Satan, disobey the Gospel both in faith and practice
(2 Thes. 1:8).
Satan
deceives people with outright lies, and clever
plans.
John 8:44 Ye are of your father
the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will
do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and
abode not in the truth, because there is no truth
in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of
his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (KJV) The attitudes and actions of leaders (then
and now) clearly identifies them as followers
of Satan. They may not be conscious of this, but
their hatred of truth, their lies, and their murderous
intentions indicate how much control the devil
has over them. Leaders and politicians were/are
the devil’s tools in carrying out his plans; they
spoke/speak the very same language of lies. Satan
still uses people to obstruct God’s work (Genesis
4:8; Romans 5:12; 1 John 3:12).
1 Tim. 4:1-3 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in
the latter times some shall depart from the faith,
giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines
of devils; [2] Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having
their conscience seared with a hot iron; [3] Forbidding
to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats,
which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving
of them which believe and know the truth.
(KJV) Paul said false teachers were hypocritical
liars who encouraged people to follow "deceiving
spirits and things taught by demons." Satan
deceives people by offering a shrewd imitation
of the real thing. We must not be impressed by
a teacher’s style or credentials; but look to
his/her teaching about Jesus Christ. His conclusions
about Christ show the source of his message.
1 John 2:15-17 Love not the world, neither the things that
are in the world. If any man love the world, the
love of the Father is not in him. [16] For all
that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and
the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is
not of the Father, but is of the world. [17] And
the world passeth away, and the lust thereof:
but he that doeth the will of God abideth for
ever. (KJV) Worldliness is not limited to external behavior; the people we associate with,
the places we go, the activities we enjoy. Worldliness
is also internal for it starts in the heart and is illustrated
by three attitudes:
- (1)
obsession with satisfying physical desires;
- (2)
craving and accumulating things, bowing to
the god of materialism; and
- (3)
boasting of what he has and does; obsession
with one’s status or importance.
Eve
was tempted by Satan (serpent, Gen.3:6), in these
same areas. The devil tempted Jesus in the desert
with these same things (Mat.4:1-11). In God’s
eyes, He values self-control, a spirit of generosity,
and a commitment to humble service. A person can give the impression of avoiding
worldly pleasures while still hiding them in their
heart. On the other hand, a person can love sinners
and spend time with them (like Jesus) while keeping
strong faith and trust in the Lord. What is most
important to you? Do your actions reflect the
world’s values or God’s values?
1 John 5:19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole
world lieth in wickedness. (KJV) Unless a person comes to Christ in faith,
they have NO choice but to obey Satan. There is
no middle ground; people either belong to God
and obey Him, or they live under Satan’s control (1 John 3:10).
Satan
CAN possess unbelievers.
Mark 5:1-13 And they came over unto the other
side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
[2] And when he was come out of the ship, immediately
there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean
spirit, [3] Who had his dwelling among the tombs;
and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
[4] Because that he had been often bound with
fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked
asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces:
neither could any man tame him. [5] And always,
night and day, he was in the mountains, and in
the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
[6] But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and
worshipped him, [7] And cried with a loud voice,
and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus,
thou Son of the most high God? I adjure
thee by God, that thou torment me not. [8] For
he said unto him, Come
out of the man, thou unclean spirit. [9] And he asked him, What
is thy name? And he answered, saying,
My name is Legion: for we are many. [10] And he
besought him much that he would not send them
away out of the country. [11] Now there was there
nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine
feeding. [12] And all the devils besought him,
saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter
into them. [13] And forthwith Jesus gave them
leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered
into the swine: and the herd ran violently down
a steep place into the sea, (they were about two
thousand;) and were choked in the sea. (KJV)
Although we do not know why demon possession occurs,
we know that evil spirits can use the human body
to distort and destroy man’s relationship with
God and likeness to Him. Demons are dangerous,
powerful, and destructive. It is important to
know about their evil activity so that we can
stay away from demons, but we should avoid any
curiosity about or involvement with demonic forces
or the occult (Deut. 18:10-12). If we resist the
devil and his influences, he will flee from us
(James 4:7).
Our
good intentions can serve Satan’s purposes.
Matthew 16:21-23 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto
his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem,
and suffer many things of the elders and chief
priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised
again the third day. [22] Then Peter took him,
and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from
thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. [23]
But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get
thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto
me: for thou savourest not the things that be
of God, but those that be of men. (KJV) The disciples still didn’t understand Jesus’
true purpose because of their preconceived notions
about what the Messiah should be. This is the
first of three times that Jesus predicted His
death (Mat.17:22-23; 20:18). Those that refuse
suffering for Christ, think more of the things
of man than of the things of God. Peter was carried
away by human views of the way of setting up Messiah’s
kingdom, quite opposite to those of God.
We must always depend
on our Lord’s ability to lead, guide and direct
us in this life. When we backslide, or take our
eyes off Jesus, even for a moment, Satan comes
charging in! Don’t let the old rascal get a foot
hold in your life! Trust Jesus always!
Satan’s
Work
#1 . . . What kind of power does Satan have?
He is permitted to afflict the righteous. Job 1:12 And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord. (KJV) God does give Satan power over believers at times.
He claims authority over the world. Luke 4:6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. (KJV) Satan must have great power.
Unbelievers are under his rule. Acts 26:18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. (KJV)
He blinds the minds of unbelievers. 2 Cor. 4:3-4 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: [4] In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. (KJV)
He battles with the saints. Eph. 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (KJV) Our biggest enemies are evil spirits controlled by Satan.
He inspires lying wonders. 2 Thes. 2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, (KJV) Heb.2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; (KJV)
# 2 . . . Is Jesus more powerful than Satan?
Absolutely YES! 1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (KJV)
# 3 . . . Can Satan hurt me? Is Satan real?
Satan is real! And yes, he can hurt you more than you know! If you continue to listen to him, and let him be your master, he will take you with him to an everlasting Hell. Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: (KJV)
Satan rules the evil spiritual world. Eph. 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: (KJV) Until a person is "born again" (John 1:12-13; 3:3-8) into God's family, they are a child of the devil!
Satan does have power
in this world. His main weapon is lying . . . he wants
you to believe what is false so you won’t follow
God’s Word. Satan really is a liar and is always
up to no good. STAY AWAY
FROM HIM! Anything connected with the
occult is connected to Satan: things like Ouija
boards, tarot cards, fortune telling, horoscopes,
divining, etc.
Satan
rules the evil spiritual world. Ephes.
2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according
to the course of this world, according to the
prince of the power of the air, the spirit that
now worketh in the children of disobedience: (KJV)
How
can we withstand his attacks? Ephes.
6:10-17 Finally, my brethren, be strong
in the Lord, and in the power of his might. [11]
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be
able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
[12] For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,
but against principalities, against powers, against
the rulers of the darkness of this world, against
spiritual wickedness in high places. [13] Wherefore
take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye
may be able to withstand in the evil day, and
having done all, to stand. [14] Stand therefore,
having your loins girt about with truth, and having
on the breastplate of righteousness; [15] And
your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel
of peace; [16] Above all, taking the shield of
faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all
the fiery darts of the wicked. [17] And take the
helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God: (KJV) In our Christian
life we battle against evil spiritual rulers and
authorities. These powerful evil forces of fallen
angels (demons) are headed by Satan, who is a
malicious fighter (see 1 Peter 5:8). There is
NO way we can withstand their attacks on our own
power! We must depend on God’s strength and use
every piece of His armor that is readily available
for us. Our whole body needs to be armed and defended.
As you battle against "the powers of this
dark world," fight in the strength of the
Holy Spirit.
2 Thes. 3:1-3 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word
of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified,
even as it is with you: [2] And that we may be
delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for
all men have not faith. [3] But the Lord is faithful,
who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. (KJV) Hidden from view in our daily life,
a savage struggle among invisible spiritual powers
is going on. One of our main defenses is prayer,
that God will protect us from the evil one and
that He will strengthen us and give us wisdom.
Satan’s Vicious Work
He tempts us to disobey. Gen.3:4-5 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: [5] For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. (KJV)
He slanders, lies about saints. Job 1:9-11 Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? [10] Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. [11] But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. (KJV)
He can and does inflict disease. Job 2:7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown. (KJV)
He opposes the righteous. Zech. 3:10 In that day, saith the Lord of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree. (KJV) It's not like that today! So many people are hate crazy! So much hate, so much war! In that day, there shall be peace everywhere! I'm ready for that!
Satan even tempted Christ. #1 Mat.4:3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. (KJV) #2 Mat.4:6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. (KJV) #3 Mat.4:8-9 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; [9] And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. (KJV) None of us are safe from Satan's vicious attempts on us.
He removes the good Seed. Mat.13:19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. (KJV) When a person hears the Gospel of Christ, Satan will do all in his power to rip it away from them.
He sows weeds. Mat.13:38-40 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; [39] The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. [40] As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. (KJV) ALL the false doctrines that are so widespread and desired today are from the devil!
He can afflict your body and soul. Job 2:7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown. (KJV) Luke 9:42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father. (KJV) Luke 13:16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? (KJV)
Satan is the father of ALL lies. John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (KJV) Jesus speaking to Pharisees.
He tempts and urges people to sin. John 13:2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him; (KJV)
Acts 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? (KJV)
2 Cor. 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. (KJV)
Eph. 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: (KJV) 1 Thes. 2:18 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us. (KJV)
He preys on people. 1 Peter 5:8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (KJV)
Rev. 2:10Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. (KJV) Jesus speaking to the Smyrna church.
He seduces by pleasure. 2 Tim. 3:6For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, (KJV)
2 Tim. 3:13But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. (KJV)
2 Samuel 13:1-2 And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her. [2] And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do any thing to her. (KJV)
Psalm 51:1To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. (KJV)
He quotes Scripture to lead astray. Mat.4:6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. (KJV) (Psalm 91:11-12) Beware of people who spurt out Scripture but don't put it in action in their lives.
He tempts by pride. 1 Tim. 3:6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. (KJV)
2 Peter 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; (KJV)
Jude 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. (KJV)
He tempts by impure thoughts. 1 Cor. 7:5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. (KJV) Incontinency = lack of self control or self restraint. Evil actions begin with evil thoughts (Mark 7:20-23).
He hinders through circumstances. 1 Thes. 2:18 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us. (KJV) We don’t know what hindered Paul from returning to Thessalonica . . . but Satan did something to keep him away. Many difficulties that prevent us from accomplishing God’s work is attributed to Satan ( Eph.6:12).
Severely strikes in a crisis. Luke 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: (KJV) Peter was certain that he would not turn away from Jesus. Jesus told Peter that he would deny Him 3 times before the cock would crow (verse 34). This proves just how much power Satan has!
Satan tries to make us deny Christ any way that he can. Satan is real. He is “the god of this age” (2 Cor. 4:4) and “the ruler of the kingdom of the air” (Eph. 2:2).
Crafty Deceiver.
Makes lying promises. Gen.3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. (KJV)
He twists Scriptures. Mat.4:6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. (KJV)
Invents cunning plans. 2 Cor. 2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. (KJV)
He appears to be good, an angel of light. 2 Cor. 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. (KJV)
