So, Is America a Christian Nation?

People living in the United States are usually considered by the whole world to be a “Christian nation.” But there is a big problem with this, for when that happens to a community, everyone in a sense, is tempted that they are a genuine (TRUE) Christian. But there is a chilling Passage of Scripture that can make a person sit up and take notice:

Matthew 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. (KJV)
Any time a verse starts with wherefore or therefore, it means to always consider what was said before. Jesus says that we shall know the false teachers (and false Christians) by what they do. Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. (KJV)

You can SAY that you are a Christian and are living by the Golden Rule, BUT the point is: Are you doing the will of the Father in heaven? If you are doing His will, you will come to Christ, admitting that you need a Saviour. Jesus is more concerned about our WALK than our TALK. He wants us to DO right, not just SAY right words. Jesus exposed people who sounded religious but had no personal relationship with Him (hypocrites). He makes it quite clear that there are many people that claim to be God’s children but are NOT! Only those people who DO the will of God the Father, shall ever enter Heaven (God’s Home).  . . . Now Jesus speaks of WHEN will He sit as final judge.

Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? (KJV) 

WHAT day? On “that day” (Judgment Day), only our relationship with Christ, and our acceptance of Him as Saviour, and our obedience to Him will matter. Many people think that if they are “good” people and say religious things, they will be rewarded with eternal life.

Some false doctrines of today teach that ALL people go to Heaven (Universalism). The Bible does NOT teach Universalism! Quite the opposite is True. Only a FEW ever make it to Heaven (Mat.7:13-14). The TRUTH is, faith in Christ is what will count on Judgment Day. “That day” is the final day of reckoning when God will settle all accounts, judging sin and rewarding faith. NO matter what a person says he/she has done in the Name of Jesus; the Great and Wise Judge can SEE their hearts. ALL people shall be judged perfectly! No one will be able to register a complaint. Those false teachers who have claimed to have cast out devils, or done miracles in Jesus’ Name, will finally be brought before the Judge and He shall punish them severely. NO rewards for them.

Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (KJV)

Judge Jesus will openly proclaim and tear the masks off those hypocrites. This does NOT refer to the Judgment Seat of Christ (1 Cor.3:11-15). ALL true believers, dead or alive, will have been removed from the Earth (1 Thes.4:13-18). This speaks of hypocrites, professors, NOT possessors of Christ. This most likely refers to the Great White Throne Judgment (Rev.20:11-15), where all unbelievers will stand.
I never knew you . . . What they claimed was intimacy with Christ, is exactly what He renounces. They claimed closeness with Christ, and in the similar passage, Luke 13:26, and are represented as having gone out and in with Him on familiar terms. He has taken all that He can stand. No fellowship was broken off . . . for there never was any to start with. Jesus will say scornfully. Depart from me . . . Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: (KJV) Ye that work iniquity . . . their sins are represented as fresh from the scenes and acts of it as they stand before the Judge. See an even more vivid and awful, description of the scene in Luke 13:24-27. The apostle Paul hints at these very words in 2 Tim. 2:19 "Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are His. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity." . . . When we follow God’s Truth, He will never forsake us. Trust Him!

What Jesus is saying, is that there will be a group of people who will have lived their lives on earth, the whole time thinking that they were Christians, but in the end, they will die realizing that God never even knew them. Dear one, this is really sobering. Many ‘Christians’ think that what they do on the outside . . . such as Christian duties, rituals and obligations is what really makes a Christian. That is NOT true, and far from it!

No matter how much you try to look like a Christian . . . IF your heart has not been changed, you are NOT a TRUE Christian, no matter how much you try! God knows the Truth about you. He knows your heart!

Christ Jesus said: John 3:5-8 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. (KJV)

Nicodemus was a Pharisee, a very religious man. Was Nicodemus afraid or ashamed to be seen with Christ, that he came at night? We are not told. When religion is ancient history by supposed “Christians”, there are many Nicodemus’s. But friend, even though Nicodemus came by night, Jesus welcomed him, just as He will anyone who comes to Him . . . day or night! This teaches that even though they are weak, and even if they come by night, Christ Jesus can make us bold and strong in the daylight! (John 19:39).

Unless a person is born again, he will NEVER enter the Kingdom of God” (verse 3). That means you must receive a new nature . . . your heart and mind must change, and that happens when you repent, meaning you admit that you have sinned against a Holy God, and you that you have offended Him. You simply realize how serious your sin is and understand that the love of God was demonstrated through the crucifixion and the resurrection of His Son, Jesus.

Multitudes put it off . . . thinking I’ll do it tomorrow! But my dear friend . . . none of us are promised “another day” . . . and you may not be here tomorrow! If you have never received eternal life, our awesome Triune God offers it to you now (Eph.1:3-14).

I know that many gamble in their hearts and minds that they will live another day, and maybe then they will make it right with God. NO one is promised tomorrow, my friends. If you have not received eternal life, I urge you to recognize that God’s lovingkindness and grace is extended to you now. He wants to give you the free gift (Rom.6:23; Eph.2:5, 8-9) of everlasting life. You cannot earn it, you cannot work for it,  and you do not deserve it, but He is willing to GIVE it to you freely if you humble yourself and repent and turn from your sin.
