Baptismal Regeneration is the FALSE teaching that a person MUST be water baptized in order to go to Heaven. This is NOT true. NO where in the Bible does it say that water baptism must accompany salvation. The Holy Word of God is very clear that water Baptism is only an ordinance, to be observed by each person AFTER salvation. Water baptism is simply a person making a public profession of their faith in Jesus Christ.
Romans 6:3-6 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. (KJV) . . . Water baptism symbolizes Christ's death, burial and resurrection and is our public profession of faith. . . . . . . . . . . . http://www.godcannotlie.org/book_of_romans_ch.6.htm
Baptism is NOT a ritual, there is absolutely NO spiritual power, NO value, by being submerged in water. NO grace from God is transferred. Being baptized does NOT make you a believer, nor does it make you a child of God, any more than walking into a barn would make you a cow.
AGAIN, water baptism symbolizes the Lord's death, burial and resurrection. When we submit to water baptism, we simply tell the world that we take a stand with our precious Saviour, indicating that we ALREADY believe in Him. There is NOT one place in the Bible that states anyone was ever baptized until AFTER they were saved. We are saved by the precious Blood of Jesus, NOT water baptism.
1 Peter 1:18-19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: (KJV)
Baptismal regeneration is the wrong belief that water baptism is necessary for salvation, and that regeneration (rebirth, renewal) does not occur until a person is baptized in water. The FALSE doctrine of Baptismal regeneration is a belief of many Christian denominations, but is mostly promoted by the Church of Christ.
Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (KJV) . . . . . . . . . . http://www.godcannotlie.org/mark_ch16.html
John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (KJV)
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (KJV)
Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. (KJV) http://www.godcannotlie.org/book_of_acts_ch22.htm
Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (KJV)
1 Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: (KJV) http://www.godcannotlie.org/1_peter_ch.3.htm
Advocates of baptismal regeneration point to the above Scriptures for Biblical support, but IF you really study this, it does NOT say that water baptism is necessary for salvation.
There is not one verse in the Holy Bible which even hints that water baptism is associated with Christ's shed Blood. To teach otherwise is to corrupt the Word of God.
John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (KJV) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . http://www.godcannotlie.org/john_commentary_ch3.html . . . Jesus is plainly teaching that being born of water refers to the physical birth, NOT to water baptism as some heretics falsely claim. Jesus is contrasting the physical birth to the spiritual birth. This passage of Scripture has absolutely nothing to do with water baptism.
Romans 8:7-9 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. (KJV) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . http://www.godcannotlie.org/book_of_romans_ch.8.htm . . . This clearly tells us IF we are a TRUE child of god or not! IF you are “in Christ” you are NOT controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Holy Spirit, for you have the Spirit of God living in you. And once you are presented with the Holy Spirit, you have Him for ever! John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (KJV)
2 John 1:2 For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever. (KJV)
http://www.godcannotlie.org/second_john.htm . . . God would NOT give us His Spirit, IF we were not sincere about our faith in Jesus! And Once we receive the Spirit, God will NOT take him away. This is only one reason that I believe in OSAS! Once saved, always saved! http://www.hisservants.org/OSAS_1_eternal_security_h_s.htm
Luke 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. (KJV) . . . . . . . . . . . . . http://www.godcannotlie.org/luke_ch23.htm . . . The thief on the cross, who believed on Jesus Christ right before he died, was NOT water baptized. Unless you believe there are two different plans of salvation, then the only logical conclusion is that water baptism is NOT required for salvation.
The Bible tells us that we are saved by faith alone.
John 1:12-13 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (KJV) http://www.godcannotlie.org/john_commentary_ch1.html
John 3:15-18 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (KJV)
Acts 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. (KJV)
Galatians 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. (KJV)
Ephesians 2:8-9For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. (KJV) http://www.godcannotlie.org/eph_ch2.htm
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; (KJV) http://www.godcannotlie.org/book_of_titus_ch3.htm
IF water baptism was required for salvation, the Bible would certainly tell us. There is NO mention of water baptism in any of the above Scriptures! Religious sacraments are NOT Biblical. Water baptism is an ordinance, like the Lord's Supper (Communion). Those are the only TWO ordinances which the Lord intended to be carried out by the New Testament Church. They are NOT sacraments, a term not even found in the Word of God. Sacraments are NOT Biblical. Catholics teach 7 sacraments; Protestants, such as Presbyterians and Lutherans, teach 2 sacraments: Holy Baptism and Holy Communion. Neither of these terms are found in the Bible. There is no such thing as Holy Baptism, which is their term for water baptism. Nor is there such a thing as Holy Communion. There is the Holy Spirit and the Holy Bible. That’s it! Dear one, even the Church is not called holy because there are NO perfect churches, just as there are NO perfect Christians. The only way that we can be holy is by being steadfast in the Holy Scriptures through the Holy Spirit . . . Who indwells every born-again believer.
1 Cor. 3:16-17 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. (KJV) http://www.godcannotlie.org/1_cor_ch3.htm
Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. (KJV) . . . Only our holy God can make men holy. http://www.godcannotlie.org/book_of_romans_ch.8.htm
You do NOT need to be water baptized to be saved! You need only to be baptized by the Holy Spirit!
1 Cor. 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. (KJV)
