The Cult of Masonry? Or Religion?

Should a Christian be a Mason?

What are the fundamental beliefs of the Mason organization. Consider a page from their handbook.
“Masonry makes no profession of Christianity… but looks forward to the time when the labor of our ancient brethren shall be symbolized by the erection of a spiritual temple… in which there shall be but one altar and one worship; one common altar of Masonry on which the Veda [Hinduism], Shastras [Buddhism], Sade [Astrology], Zend-Avesta [Zoroastrianism], Koran [Islam], and Holy Bible shall lie untouched by sacrilegious hands, and at whose shrine the Hindoo (sic), the Persian, the Assyrian, the Chaldean, the Egyptian, the Chinese, the Mohammedan, the Jew, and the Christian may kneel and with one united voice celebrate the praises of the Supreme Architect of the Universe.”

Do you SEE how their belief parallels the Holy Bible with pagan scriptures and then clearly states it is possible to obtain salvation through ANY religion. That is NOT what the LORD God tells us in His Holy Bible tells us!

1 John 5:10-13 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. Only a fool would refuse to believe God! And in the above Scriptures . . . The LORD very clearly states that we call God a “liar” when we do not believe Him and turn our back on His only begotten Son . . . who is the ONLY ONE who can save our soul from the eternal fiery pits of Hell! Acts 4:12 without a doubt, clearly endorses that “there is salvation in no other name under heaven EXCEPT the Name of Jesus.”

How can any Christian give his loyalty to a group whose beliefs make a mockery of the sure Gospel of Jesus Christ? And yet, thousands of professing Christians, even many pastors and elders, have done so by joining the Masons.

Masonry is a brotherly, social, and service organization . . . but it is more. It is also a religious organization.

The Masons will almost always deny this in their public statements, but their official literature and their actions make it clear that Masonry is a religion. They require “A” belief in god . . . ANY ‘god’ will do . . . in order to join. They have published a Masonic Bible that contains special study guides. They conduct funerals for their members. Most important (as we shall see later), their official, non-public literature is filled with RELIGIOUS doctrine.

(1). Coil’s Masonic Encyclopedia, considered to be the most authoritative and influential Masonic books today.

(2). It states point blank that “Freemasonry is undoubtedly a religion.”

(3). Albert G. Mackey’s Manual of the Lodge states: “As Masons we are taught never to begin any great or important undertaking without first invoking the blessing and protection of deity, and this is because Masonry is a religious institution.”

(4). Mackey is considered the third most influential Masonic writer,

(5). And another of his books, declares that “the religion of Masonry is cosmopolitan and universal.”

(6). Albert Pike, the greatest Masonic writer, states that “every Masonic Lodge is a temple of religion; and its teachings are instruction in religion.”

(7). He also said, “Masonry is… the universal, eternal, immutable religion, such as God planted in the heart of universal humanity.”

The Nature of Masonry: Is it a Cult?

The Masonic Order has positive cult characteristics . . . but it is not a model cult because it does NOT demand membership in just it alone. Masons are encouraged to be an active member of a local church. I think that this diverse feature of Masonry has given them far more impact on Christians than all the other cults rolled together. Instead of calling Masonry a cult, I will call it a FALSE RELIGION, and I think I can prove it.

Church Exclusions
Many Christian denominations recognize the cult nature of Masonry and have taken great steps to stop its influence among their members. The Missouri Synod of the Lutheran Church prohibits Masons from becoming members of their church, and the Nazarene Church has banned any person who is a member of a secret organization like the Masons.

The Catholic Church has also taken a strong stand against Masonry. Ever since 1728 Catholics have been prohibited from joining the Masons. That stance was reaffirmed by the Vatican in 1984 with a pronouncement that any Catholic who joins the Masons is “in a state of grave sin and cannot partake in Holy Communion.”

The British Methodist Church also condemned Masonry at its General Assembly in 1985. The Assembly acted on a report of its Faith and Order Committee. The report ended with these words: “There is a great danger that the Christian who becomes a Freemason will find himself compromising his Christian beliefs or his allegiance to Christ, perhaps without realizing what he is doing.”

Many other denominations, both in the United States and in foreign countries, have passed restrictions condemning Masonry as NON-Christian in nature. Denominations in America include the Wesleyan Methodist Church, the Assemblies of God, the Evangelical Mennonite Church, the Christian Reformed Church, the General Association of Regular Baptists, the Greek Orthodox Church, and the Presbyterian Church in America . . . along with others.

The BLATANT omission is the Southern Baptists, which is a VERY serious matter . . . because many Southern Baptists, including pastors and deacons, are also Masons.

Freemasonry is in DIRECT conflict with the Bible because Masonry condones communal worship of a generic deity: "To respect all forms of worship, to tolerate all political and religious opinions; not to blame, and still less to condemn the religion of others; not to seek to make converts; but to be content if they have the religion of Socrates; a veneration for the Creator, the religion of good works, and grateful acknowledgment of God's blessings." (Morals and Dogma, p.333)

Many Southern Baptists who strongly oppose Masonry were able to get a resolution passed at their 1992 convention which asked their membership to avoid association with organizations that operate in secret and which espouse doctrines that conflict with clear biblical teaching.

Even though Masonry was not specifically mentioned in this resolution, its wording infuriated Masons, and they went to work to override it. Thousands of Christian Masons were encouraged to attend the 1993 convention. A special publication was issued that showed Baylor University officials on the cover wearing their Masonic regalia. The publication declared that “Masonry is perfectly compatible with the classic Protestant belief in justification by faith.”

During the interim leading up to the 1993 convention, a special committee studied the issue and released an incredible report in which it admitted that there were things about Masonry that were pagan, unscriptural, and in conflict with basic Christian beliefs, but STILL recommended that membership in the Masonic Order “be a matter of personal conscience.” The convention adopted this recommendation.

Because of the strong bans against Masonic membership that have been pronounced by many Christian denominations, I want to make one thing very clear before I proceed. I do not support that Masons be kicked out of their local churches. Many Christian men are Masons. Many of them are in the Masonic Order for business contacts or social purposes or maybe it is a family heritage. Most of them do NOT pay any attention to the organization’s religious teachings . . . and most are probably not aware of what Masonry teaches about our One and Only Creator God.

So . . . my question is . . . WHY did they join the Masons in the first place? Speaking for myself, I certanly would NEVER sign my name to something unless I KNEW what I was getting into! I simply do not believe a person can be an informed Mason and a committed Christian at the same time.

I will conclude that because of Masonry’s cultic characteristics and its totally FALSE religious doctrines, a Christian who is a Mason can never grow to his full potential in Christ. He should get OUT of the Masons! And I aslo believe (because of what God's Word states), NO Mason should ever be put in a position of leadership in a local church. NO ONE can serve successfully as a Christian spiritual leader when he has compromised his commitment to Christ Jesus by bargaining with a cult-like organization that promotes a FALSE religion?

Cultic Characteristics
What are the cultic characteristics of Masonry? TWO of them CANNOT be denied by any Mason . . . and they are the requirement of secrecy and the taking of oaths.

Masonry is a secret organization. Ask any Mason what goes on at his meetings, and he will start evading your questions. He is sworn to secrecy. This is a classic characteristic of cultic groups, and it is an attitude that stands in opposition to Scripture. The Bible says: John 3:20-21 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. (KJV) . . . Jesus’ Words!!!

What it all boils down to is, the mockery in all this is that the Masonic Order really does NOT have any secrets because thousands of men have come out of Masonry and have exposed all of its “secrets” in many publications . . . which have shed light on a second cultic feature.

What about blood oaths?
Every Mason is required to take three blood oaths:
#1. In the first degree of Masonry, as an Entered Apprentice, the person is required to place a curse on himself by swearing an oath that he will bind himself “under no less penalty than to have my throat cut across and my tongue torn out by the roots… so help me God.” . . . It is absolutely absurd that the Name of the One and Only TRUE Creator God would be summoned in such a Satanic oath, especially when our God of the Bible strictly tells us NOT to take any oaths. Matthew 5:34-37 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: 35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. 36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. 37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. (KJV) . . . Again, Jesus’ Words!!!

#2. At the second degree, the Fellow Craft level, the Mason swears “to have my left breast torn open and my heart and vitals taken from thence and thrown over my left shoulder… if ever I should prove willfully guilty of violating any part of this my solemn oath or obligation… so help me God.” . . . Swearing an ‘oath’ is wrong for a Christian, it is yes or no, period!

Consider this: The third degree Master Mason swears “to have my body severed in two in the midst, and divided to the north and south, and my bowels burnt to ashes in the center, and the ashes scattered before the four winds of heaven… were I ever to prove willfully guilty of violating any part of this solemn oath… so help me God.” . . . Does our awesome Triune God ever ask this of any one of His children? Absolutely not!

NO Christian should ever even consider such oaths, even if they do NOT take God seriously. Dear one . . . God takes them seriously, and so does Satan.

Other oaths much more hideous than the above ones are demanded, if a man desires to go higher up in this association. WHY would a TRUE Christian ever consider the Masons???
