Judgment Day
The RIGHTEOUS SHALL BE REWARDED
What happens after we die? I will tell you my thoughts on this. First . . . what does the Bible say?
2 Cor.5:1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. (KJV) . . . By earthly house, Paul means the body in which the soul is housed. Physical death dissolves the body, so it can no longer house the soul. BUT . . . when we are resurrected (Dan.12:2; John 5:28-29), we shall receive a new and better body, which shall be eternal in Heaven.
2 Cor.5:6, 8 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
. . . [8] We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. (KJV) . . . Death is simply separation. Physical death (Gen.3:19; Ecc.12:7; Ps.104:29), is simply separation of the body and soul (spirit). Spiritual death (Rom.8:6; Jam.1:15; 5:20), is separation from God here on Earth. In other words, an unbeliever is separated from God. Eternal death (2 Thes.1:8-9), is eternal separation from God, or ALL those who will go to the Lake of Fire.
To be absent from the body means you have died physically. Always confident . . . means to be of good cheer; to have good courage; to be full of hope. Paul was cheerful and happy. He was patient in his trials, and diligent in his calling. He was full of hope, and had a confident expectation of Heaven. He was confident that where the Lord Jesus was, would be Heaven. Any place where the Redeemer is, is Heaven, and we should, like Paul, be willing to be absent from the body (dead), for then we would be present with the Lord.
Phil.1:23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: (KJV) . . . To die . . . is for believers, to leave this world for a better one (Heb.11:16). It is the nature of humans to usually dread to die, because of the fear of the unknown. But, a believer, a TRUE child of God can take comfort in the above verses. When we die, we go immediately into the Presence of Almighty God.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. (KJV) . . . The spirit, which God first breathed into the nostrils of man, made each person a living, eternal soul; an intelligent, rational, discoursing being. Upon death, the spirit of the person, returns to God who gave it. There is a most evident difference between the body and the soul. They are NOT the same. The body, which is matter, returns to dust (the grave). The spirit, which is immaterial, returns to God.
All people have a soul, an eternal soul! Both the righteous and the wicked have eternal souls! So, at death, as we see above, the spirit of a believer (a child of God, a Christian), goes into God's Presence.
What about the soul of a wicked person (unbeliever, rejecter of Christ)? Ecc.12:7 says the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. Yes! It does. But, what does God do with the spirit (soul) of a wicked person? He sends it to Hades (Luke 16:22-23), to await Judgment Day when it shall be sent to the final and permanent Hell . . . the Lake of Fire.
It seems that until the final resurrection, after death a person resides in a “temporary” Heaven and Hell. Once there, a person's eternal destiny will not change. A person CANNOT change his/her mind or make other decisions after they die. Once you die, it is either Heaven OR Hell. The decision MUST be made while you live!
The righteous shall be rewarded. The Bible tells us that there is not only life after death, but eternal life will be glorious.
1 Cor.2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. (KJV) . . . Paul takes this from Isaiah 64:4. Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for them that love him. Heaven is so wonderful that even the grandest picture we could have, would not come close to its beauty and peace and comfort. The state of glory in this future world cannot be described! It is unspeakable! (2 Cor.9:15)
Christ Jesus, God in the flesh, came to the Earth to give us this GIFT (Rom.6:23; Eph.2:8) of eternal life.
Although we will all eventually be resurrected, everyone will not go to Heaven. A choice must be made NOW by each person in this life to determine where he or she will be going for eternity. The Bible says that it is appointed for us to die only once, and after that will come judgment (Heb.9:27). Those who have been made righteous will go into eternal life in Heaven, but unbelievers will be sent to the eternal punishment of the Lake of Fire. (Mat. 25:46).
Life on Earth is a test, as to what we decide, where we will go, a preparation for what is to come. For believers, this is eternal life in the immediate Presence of God. So how can we made righteous and be able to receive this gift of eternal life? There is only one way! Faith and trust in God's Son, Christ Jesus.
John 11:25-26 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: [26] And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? (KJV) . . . Do YOU believe this? I pray that you do. Because God CANNOT lie!
The free gift of eternal life is available to ALL people, ALL nations, ALL colors! But we must deny ourselves some worldly pleasures and sacrifice ourselves to God.
John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. (KJV) . . . We will NOT be given any opportunity to repent from our sins after we die. When we come Face to face with God, it will be too late. We will go either to Heaven OR to Hell!
The following prayer is simply a way to express to God your faith in Him and thank Him for providing for your salvation. BUT, God knows your heart! You cannot fool Him. He knows if you are sincere. You must mean the words you say or you are just wasting your time.
God, I know that I have sinned against you. I know I deserve to be punished. But Christ Jesus took the punishment that I deserve when He died on the cross. So, through faith in Him I ask that you forgive me. I trust Him for my salvation. Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness, and Thank you for the gift of eternal life! It is in Jesus' Name I pray. Amen!
"Will we be able to see and know our friends and family members in Heaven?"
How can I know for sure that I will go to Heaven when I die?
The Catholics and other cults say a person cannot know if they have eternal life. I disagree! God wants you to know!
1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. (KJV) . . . John wrote his letters so that we could KNOW we have eternal life!
John 3:15-16 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. [16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (KJV) . . . IF we believe in Jesus, we HAVE eternal life!
John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. (KJV) . . . IF we believe in Jesus, we HAVE eternal life, and we HAVE it NOW! Hath everlasting life . . . we HAVE it NOW! God CANNOT lie!
We have to understand the problem that keeps us from Heaven. The problem is us, our sinful nature keeps us from having a relationship with God. We are sinners by nature and by choice. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom.3:23). We cannot save ourselves. “For by grace are you saved, through faith, and this not of yourselves; it is the gift of God. Not by works, so that no one can boast” (Eph.2:8-9). We deserve death and Hell. “For the wages of sin is death” (Rom.6:23).
God is holy and just and MUST punish sin, because He said he would and if He didn't, He would be a liar. And my friend, God is NOT a liar! He loves us and has provided forgiveness for our sin. Jesus said: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Jesus died for us on the cross: “For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous to bring you to God” (1 Peter 3:18). Jesus was resurrected from the dead: “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification” (Rom.4:25).
So, “How can I know for sure that I will go to Heaven when I die?” Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. (Acts 16:31)
John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: (KJV)
John 10:10-b . . . I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (KJV)
John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (KJV)
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (KJV)
What is Heaven like?
Heaven is a real PLACE described in the Bible. The word "Heaven" is found 550 times in the Bible; 237 of those times in the New Testament. Paradise is found 3 times, all in the New Testament.
The apostle Paul was “caught up to the third heaven," but was prohibited from revealing what he saw there (2 Cor. 12:1-9). If a third heaven exists, there has to be two others. The first heaven is referred to in the Old Testament as the "sky" or the "firmament," which appears as an arch that is spread over our earth. This is the heaven that contains clouds, the area where birds fly. The second heaven is where the sun, moon and stars are (Gen.1:14-18).
The third heaven, whose location is not revealed to us, is where our Triune God resides. God's plan is to fill the third Heaven with believers in Jesus Christ. No wonder the word Heaven is interchangeable with eternal life! Jesus promised to prepare a place for true Christians in Heaven (John 14:2). Heaven (Paradise) is also the destination of Old Testament saints who died trusting God's Promise of the Redeemer (Eph.4:8). Whosoever believes in Christ shall never perish but have etyernal life (John 3:16).
The apostle John was also privileged to see and report on the heavenly city (Rev.21:10-27). John witnessed that Heaven possesses the "glory of God" (Rev.21:11). This is the Shekinah glory or the Presence of God. Because Heaven has no night and the Lord is the light, the sun and moon are no longer needed (Rev. 22:5).
The city, New Jerusalem is filled with the brilliance of costly stones and crystal clear jasper. Heaven has 12 gates (Rev.21:12) and 12 foundations (Rev.21:14). The paradise of the Garden of Eden is restored: the river of the water of life flows freely and the tree of life is available once again, yielding fruit monthly with leaves that "heal the nations" (Rev.22:1-2). However eloquent John was in his description of Heaven, the reality of Heaven is beyond the ability of finite man to describe (1 Cor.2:9).
Heaven is a place of "no mores." There will be no more tears, no more pain, and no more sorrow (Rev.21:4). There will be no more separation because death will be conquered (Rev.20:6). The best thing about Heaven is the Presence of our Saviour and Lord, Jesus . . . the opposite of the unbelievers, who shall forever be banished from the Presence of the Lord (2 Thes.1:8-9). Believers will be Face to face with the Lamb of God, Who loved us and sacrificed Himself so that we can enjoy His Presence for eternity. To me, the Best thing about Heaven, is that Jesus will be there!
