Israel, An Unfruitful Vine??

What About Us??

Jeremiah 2:21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me? (KJV) God condemned Judah for seeking security in worthless, changeable things rather than the unchangeable God. We may be tempted to seek security from wealth, possessions, power, people, or our own abilities, but ALL of these will fail us. There is NO lasting security apart from the eternal God!!

Hosea 10:1 Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images. (KJV) Israel prospered under Jeroboam II, gaining military and economic strength. But the more prosperous the nation became, the more she turned away from God, the more love she bestowed on idols. It seems as though the more that God blesses us, the more He gives us, the more we want: bigger houses, better cars, nicer clothes, fame, power, etc. But what most people never consider is, the best things that the world has to offer, are like a red carpet on the path to destruction. Financial security is good, there is nothing wrong in thinking of your future - - - but when you place it above God, it is disasterous!

Money is NOT the root of all evil - - - it is the LOVE of money that is evil in God’s eyes!

1 Tim. 6:10-11 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. [11] But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. (KJV) Is money a “god” to you?

Matthew 6:19-20 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: [20] But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: (KJV) Jesus' worsds.

Matthew 19:23-24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. [24] And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. (KJV) Jesus' words. Some people say that the eye of the needle was a gate going into Jerusalem, where IF a camel knelt down and walked on its knees, it could go through the gate. From what I can find - - - there was NO such gate. I believe that Jesus meant this to be literal. A camel CANNOT go through an eye of a needle - - - meaning that a rich man does not have much of a chance of going to Heaven BECAUSE he places his money above Almighty God. Money and what it can do, is loved by him, he idolizes it.

Ephes. 5:5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. (KJV)

Philip. 3:18-19 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: [19] Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) (KJV)

1 Tim. 6:5-11 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. [6] But godliness with contentment is great gain. [7] For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. [8] And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. [9] But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. Unfruitfulness of Israel . . . and Us

Matthew 3:10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. (KJV) Just as a fruit tree is expected to bear fruit, God’s people should produce a crop of good deeds. God has no use for people who call themselves "Christians" but do nothing about it. Like many people in John’s day who were God’s people in name only, we are of no value if we are Christians in name only. If others can’t see our faith in the way we treat them, we may not be God’s people at all.

Matthew 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. (KJV) Jesus' words. Nothing prevents people from entering the strait gate, and becoming true followers of Christ, more than the false, comforting, agreeable doctrines of those who do not teach the Truth. These doctrines teach what is contrary to the mind of Christ. The opinions of these people do NOT come from God, and they lead to sin, judgment and eternal death in HELL.

Matthew 13:22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.(KJV) Jesus' words.If you denounce worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth, and still do nothing to change your ways, you have not accomplished a thing. If you had everything you could possibly want in this life, but forfeited eternal life with God, what good would that do you?
