UNDERSTANDING GOD’S JUDGMENT
Is God judging America today? I think the first thing you must do is to understand God’s way of judgment and where and how it reveals itself.
The Bible is full of the statements that God is holy, righteous and perfect.
Psalm 7:17 I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high. (KJV)
Psalm 18:30 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him. (KJV)
Psalm 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. (KJV)
Psalm 89:14 Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face. (KJV)
Psalm 93:5 Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, for ever. (KJV)
Psalm 99:5 Exalt ye the LORD our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy. (KJV)
Psalm 99:9 Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy. (KJV)
Psalm 145:17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. (KJV)
It makes sense that any violation of those qualities demands judgment in a way similar to the summons of a human courtroom. The satisfaction of God’s violated justice is said to be His judgment, or a display of His wrath. But, God’s judgment is often soothed by His mercy.
Since God is just and sin must be and shall be paid for, God’s holy wrath (the righteousness of God exposed against sin), is the expected result. God’s judgment can be broken down into five different parts.
The Five Forms of God’s Judgment
Five different kinds of God’s judgment are repeated in the Bible. They are as follows:
#1. Resulting Wrath: What You Sow, You Shall Reap
#2. Forsaking Wrath: Abandoned by God
#3. End Times Wrath: Final destiny of the soul and of humankind.
#4. Catastrophic Wrath: The Flood, Sodom & Gomorrah
#5. Eternal Wrath: Hell
#1. Understanding God’s Resulting (consequential) Wrath
Galatians 6:7-8 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. (KJV)
Resulting Wrath is best understood through the idea the Bible commonly refers to as sowing and reaping. IF a person or a nation violates the perfect precepts of God’s Word, he, she or the nation shall suffer the terrible penalty.
#2. Understanding God’s Forsaking Wrath
Romans 1:18-32 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. (KJV)
Bold emphasis mine. As you see from this brief Passage, God clearly states THREE times He “gave them up,” and because God does NOT change . . . and because people refuse to believe the Truth about God, He gives them over to their corrupted minds, back then and today, allowing them to do things that they should NOT do. If people think they can accept and live in the perversion of this ‘modern’ day, and not come under God’s wrath, they fool only themselves. Is there a way out? YES! Repent and turn to Christ Jesus.
God’s Forsaking Wrath is when God steps back and allows a person or nation to follow their wicked desires. God usually restrains people from sin, but when they turn their back on Him, He no longer restrains the man or nation, but allows them to do as they see fit.
An intense picture of God’s forsaking wrath, is when found in: Hosea 4:17 Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone. (KJV) . . . Let him alone . . . they cannot be reclaimed, God will leave them to reap the end results of their perverted conduct. God will put up with just so much, then lower the boom!
Another sad Old Testament illustration: Psalm 81:11-12 But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me. 12 So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels. (KJV) . . . People, or nations, must be very careful not to anger God so much that He abandons them to their stupidity.
#3. Understanding God’s End Times Wrath
Matthew 24:21-22 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. (KJV)
Luke 21:23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. (KJV)
Romans 2:5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; (KJV)
Also see Revelation Chapters 6-18.
In the End Times, God will pour out His wrath upon the whole world.
The Pre-Tribulation Rapture view is a source of comfort for many Christians who are sick about what is taking place in the today’s world. It is a great comfort to know that all our troubles will end when the Rapture takes place.
I think some of the most persuasive Scriptures that seem to favor the Pre-Tribulation Rapture view are several verses that state that Christians are NOT appointed to wrath. TRUE Christians shall be removed by the Lord Jesus BEFORE the Antichrist is revealed and the Great Tribulation begins.
1 Thes. 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. (KJV)
1 Thes. 4:16-17 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. (KJV)
1 Thes. 5:9-10 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. (KJV)
After the Rapture takes place, the Antichrist will make himself known. Many believe that this ‘person’ is alive today.
Daniel 9:26-27 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. (KJV)
I believe that the 7 year Tribulation is God’s wrath on the wicked, so it makes sense to me that the Rapture must take place, and TRUE Christians be removed, BEFORE the Tribulation so that they are not subject to God’s wrath. The Tribulation is a future period when the worst persecution in the history of the world will take place. The Antichrist will use everything in his power to destroy those who refuse to worship him and Satan.
(KJV)
Many of today’s popular Bible prophecy teachings rely on misquoted Scripture or Scripture that’s taken out of context. We as Christians must be careful not to automatically accept everything we hear, so it is a good example to be a Berean (Acts 17:10-11).
#4. Understanding Catastrophic Wrath
Catastrophic or cataclysmic wrath, can be a drought, an earthquake, a flood, hurricane, tornado, tsunami or volcano. The Flood in Noah’s time and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah are examples of this type of God’s wrath. These disasters are echoes of the judgment of God.
Numbers 16:31-35 And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them: 32 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. 33 They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation. 34 And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also. 35 And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense. (KJV)
#5. Understanding God’s Eternal Wrath
Matthew 25:41-46 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. (KJV)
Daniel 8:23-25 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. 24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. 25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand. (KJV) . . . This coming Antichrist monster shall do four things which Antiochus did in a small way:
(1.) He shall cause craft to prosper in his hand. NO person anywhere will be able to buy, sell, go to a doctor, have a bank account, etc. EXCEPT those who willingly accept the mark of the beast (Rev.13:17). He will be in COMPLETE control of the economy.
(2.) He shall magnify himself in his heart. His mouth speaks great things and blasphemies. He will be given power to continue forty-two months (3 ½ years). Pride is a main characteristic of the coming Satanic Antichrist! He does not know humility. He is like Satan who was filled with pride (Rev.13:5).
(3.) By peace he shall destroy many. He comes as a gentle lamb, but he goes out as a roaring lion. In Revelation chapter 6, he is the rider on the white horse. Right after that, he comes on the red horse of war which brings famine and disease, as all wars do. He will lie about peace. He wants NO peace! He will bring only a false peace. The Jews will think they are entering the 1000 Millennium (Rev.20), but instead shall be entering the Great Tribulation (Mat.24:21).
(4.) He shall stand up against the Prince of princes (Dan.8:25). Dear one, the Antichrist will oppose and fight against Christ and all those who take a stand with Him. The Antichrist (the first beast in Rev.13:1-7), will be totally against Christ.

These Passages identify a specific period of time at the end of the age when God will visit His wrath upon the unbelieving world.
In the past many commentators have identified this period as being the time of the vial judgments of Rev. 15-16. That’s because in Rev. 16:1 these judgments are called “the seven
vials (bowls) of God’s Wrath.” But the Bible does not say the time of God’s Wrath begins with these judgments. In fact in Rev. 15:1 the Scriptures say that with the vial judgments God’s wrath will end. If that gives us the ending point then where do they begin?
The answer can be found in Rev. 6:16-17 where the kings of the earth realize that with the seal judgments the great day of God’s wrath has begun.
They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?”
The KJV renders Rev. 6:17 as “For the great day of His wrath has come, and who can withstand it?” Based on this, some people see a difference between the wrath of the Lamb, which only appears in Rev. 6:16, and the wrath of God. But the majority of English versions translate the Greek word “autos” in the plural, as happens over 300 times in the New Testament, and translate Rev. 6:17 as “the great day of their wrath has come.” Since both Father and Son are in view in Rev. 6:16 and since the Two are One (John 10:30) this seems to fit better.
Also note the past perfect tense of the phrase “the great day of their wrath has come”. The past perfect tense is used to describe an action that has taken place at a specific time in the past. From the preceding judgments of Rev. 6, the kings of the earth will realize that they are already in the period known as the Wrath of God. Therefore, the time of God’s wrath begins with the seal judgments of Rev. 6 and ends with the vial (bowl) judgments of Rev. 16 and will occupy most, if not all, of Daniel’s 70th Week
Many commentators insist that God’s wrath is the worst part of a time they call the seven year Tribulation period, which makes God’s wrath the same as the Great Tribulation. I disagree. As I see it, the last half of the 7 year Tribulation is the last 3 ½ years and is the Great Tribulation, the worst part of the time of God’s wrath.
Matthew 24:21-22 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. (KJV)
When Jesus spoke these words, I feel sure He was referring to the vial (bowl) judgments of Rev. 16 because these are the only judgments that will take place in the second half of Daniel’s 70th Week, after the Antichrist sets up the abomination of desolation (Dan.9:27). The horrible vial judgments are the third and final series of judgments that God will execute upon the Earth during the time of His eternal wrath.
The Tribulation and the Great Tribulation are not the same, and God’s eternal wrath and the time of God’s wrath are not the same. I think these terms get confused in the minds of people who cannot accept the pre-trib Rapture of the Church.
God’s Eternal Wrath is the judgment that God places unbelieving sinners in Hell for eternity.
