WHY I AM
NOT CHARISMATIC
*****#1 Charismatics/Pentecostals CLAIM to be continuing in the ‘signs and gifts’ of the apostles, when even the apostles did not have that power to the end of their ministry.
Acts 5:12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch. (KJV)
Acts 5:15-16 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. [16] There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one. (KJV) . . . These men were endowed with power from their Master.
Acts 19:11-12 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: [12] So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. (KJV) . . . But then something happened!
2 Tim. 4:20 Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick. (KJV) . . . WHY didn’t Paul heal this man? He couldn’t! Or he certainly would have.
Philip. 2:26-27 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick. [27] For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. (KJV) . . . There is NO mention of a healing service here! Epaphroditus was willing to go to the Philippians, that he might be comforted, for they had sorrowed for him when he was sick. It's possible that his illness may have been caused by the work of God (verse 30).
And last but certainly not least . . .
2 Cor. 12:7-10 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. [8] For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. [9] And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. [10] Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. (KJV) . . . Paul asked God THREE times to heal him. God did NOT heal Paul!
Charismatics are blind to the FACT that God changed the way He did His work. God does NOT change, but . . . He does change how He does things at times. The beginning of the apostolic period is quite different from the later period. I strongly believe that the Lord can and does heal people! He certainly does heal IF He so desires, BUT He does NOT always desire to do so.
*****#2 Charismatics tend to exalt their personal experiences, above the Truth in the Word of God. They emphasize: “It happened to me” or “I saw it myself” instead of “thus saith the Lord.” When they do quote Scripture, they take it out of context, or twist it, or add to it, or take something away from it. They do not seek after the Lord Jesus Christ, they seek after a thrilling personal experience.
Philip. 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; (KJV) . . . We need to know Christ and experience the power of His resurrection. Any time God allows us to suffer, we know more about Christ's sufferings and become more like Him in His death.
*****#3 Charismatics glorify the Holy Spirit instead of Jesus Christ our Lord. As God’s children, we certainly should be grateful and rejoice for the work of the Holy Spirit does within us, but we must NOT place Him above Jesus, ever. He should NOT be exalted or glorified, He does NOT desire to be honored above Jesus.
John 16:13-14 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. [14] He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. (KJV) . . . It is the Holy Spirit’s job to glorify Jesus, and help us understand God’s Word.
*****#4 Because Charismatics emphasize personal experience above the Truth in God’s Word, they tend to fall into serious false doctrines at an alarming rate. Some do not believe in the Trinity, some believe that believers become gods, some believe in summoning angels to do their bidding, most believe if you can’t speak in tongues, you are not endowed with the Holy Spirit, etc.
*****#5 Charismatics falsely teach that we can summon angels to do our bidding. NO where in the Bible does it say anything even close to this.
*****#6 Many Charismatic preachers use their power and influence to cheat and abuse the common (poor) people who steadfastly follow them. They live in mansions like kings while the poor people live in degrading poverty. They put on shows of visions and tongues, and make promises in order to fleece people of more money. This is NOT of God! If it is not of God, it is of the devil!
*****#7 Charismatic preachers tend to deceive people with a health and wealth gospel. They promise health and wealth in order to get wealth from their congregations.
I realize that the tongues movement is one of the fastest growing ‘religions’ today, but that is not to say that it is all on the up and up according to the Word of God. I simply believe that there are many people being led astray by Charismatics.
2 Thes. 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; (KJV) . . . Apostasy (a falling away) is rapidly on the uprise.
1 Tim. 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; (KJV) . . . The “latter times” began with Christ’s resurrection and will continue until His Return when He will set up His Kingdom and judge all humanity. False teachers were back then and still are today a threat to the church. Jesus and the apostles repeatedly warned against them (Mark 13:21-23; Acts 20:28-31; 2 Thes. 2:1-12; 2 Peter 3:3-7).
2 Tim. 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; [4] And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. (KJV) . . . This prophecy is true in our day. People are turning away from the Truth of God's Word; searching for false teachers who will preach what they want to hear. Those who are horrified at the apostasy today, must be ever watchful, must be faithful to the Lord, and serve the Lord willingly, bringing the whole Truth of the Bible. We must make known the pure and true Gospel.
