John Hagee is the senior pastor of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas. Hagee began in 1958 as an evangelist. Many think that John Hagee's teachings are completely Biblical. After researching him and his teachings, I CANNOT go along with that, for the following reasons:

He preaches the Prosperity Gospel

Hagee teaches the Word Faith's doctrine that all Christians should be financially prosperous as long as they continue to walk in obedience to God's ordinances. He teaches the damnable heresy that "poverty is caused by sin and disobeying the Word of God." Hagee, like most other prosperity preachers, teach that "poverty is a curse." Christians become prosperous by giving, they say. "When you give to God, He controls your income. There's no such thing as a fixed income in the Kingdom of God. Your income is controlled by your giving." "God created a universe where it is impossible to receive without giving. You do not qualify for God's abundance until you give." HOGWASH!!! God does NOT make everyone wealthy!

What does the Bible say about riches?

Ten Dangers of Coveting Riches

1 Timothy 6:9-10 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (KJV) 1 Timothy 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; (KJV)

Wealth (riches) can bring about all the following:
1. Many temptations.
2. Many snares.
3. Many foolish lusts.
4. Many hurtful lusts.
5. Drowning in destruction and perdition.
6. The love of money the root of all evil.
7. Causes people to err from the faith.
8. Brings many sorrows.
9. Makes people proud.
10. Makes people place their trust in wrong things.

All too often, heaping up riches debases the mind, destroys godly traits, and causes selfishness, pride, and avarice which end in "destruction and perdition" (1 Tim. 6:9-10).
Riches in the Bible are considered the cause of much sin and rebellion against God: (Deut. 6:10-17; Psalm 52:1-7; Psalm 73:1-22; Proverbs 23:4-5; Proverbs 28:20-22; Proverbs 30:8-9; Jeremiah 9:23; Ezekiel 28:5). Matthew 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: (KJV) Luke 6:24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation. (KJV) Luke 12:19-21 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? 21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. (KJV) Luke 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (KJV) James 5:1-3 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. 2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. 3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. (KJV)

NOW! What does the Bible say about being poor?

Luke 6:20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God. (KJV) 1 Timothy 6:6-8 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. (KJV) James 1:9-11 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: 10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. 11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways. (KJV) James 2:5-6 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? 6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? (KJV)

This is NOT to say that Christians should consider wealth as something evil. The Bible simply tells us that material wealth is absolutely NOT the measure for righteousness or God's blessing . . . contrary to the false teacher's "prosperity gospel."!

The proper value of wealth lies in the purpose for which it is used. 1 Timothy 6:17-19 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; 19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. (KJV) . . . Riches and its power can and does lead people into idolatry. People get so caught up in matters of finances and wealth that they neglect or completely forget about God. They put wealth before God! God, for these people, may fade out of the picture completely, being replaced by lust for more and more and more materialism. Their primary concerns are on temporary, worldly things, not on the eternal, which is certain to come! They devote their lives to that which perishes! John 6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. (KJV) Matthew 6:19-21 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (KJV)

Promotes Positive Confession

Along with the prosperity heresy, Hagee accepts and promotes another Word Faith doctrine of "positive confession." This basic teaching of the Word Faith movement teaches that Christians can speak physical realities into existence (positive confession) as long as the believer has enough faith to accompany his/her verbal confession. "There is a relationship between your soul and physical and financial prosperity," states Hagee. What utter nonsense!

Just like his teachings on prosperity, Hagee's Word Faith doctrine of positive confession is contrary to the teaching of the Bible! NOTHING confessed by believers in faith . . . automatically comes to pass. Only Almighty God has the power to create as He wishes (Gen. 1:1). Christians are absolutely instructed to pray to God for their requests (Mat. 6:8-13; 21:22). BUT . . . in the end, ALL such requests are subject to God's sovereign will! Whichever ones that eventually come to pass, do so only as a direct result of God's will and NOT the will of the man (1 John 5:14). BUT my friend, your requests MUST be according to His will! WHAT is God's will? It is only what honors and glorifies God! It is in reality, asking for things that Jesus wold ask for. Would Jesus ask for riches??? NO way, my friend! He did NOT even have a place to lay His blessed Head while He was on Earth! (Mat.8:20). Asking for riches that almost certainly leads people away from God is NOT God's will!

???Salvation Without Conversion???

Hagee is known as a fierce foe of anti-Semitism. For this, I praise him! Anti-Semitism is wrong and is a horrible sin and curse! (Gen.12:3). Hagee is an outspoken supporter of the Jewish people, Judaism, and the nation Israel, BUT . . . even though his bold stance against anti-Semitism is praiseworthy, Hagee's zealousness for the Jewish people and their cause has led him to commit a most serious doctrinal error . . . salvation for the Jews without conversion to Christ. One newspaper account puts it this way: "Trying to convert Jews is a "waste of time," he [Hagee] said. . . . Everyone else, whether Buddhist or Baha'i, needs to believe in Jesus, he says. But not Jews. Jews already have a covenant with God that has never been replaced with Christianity," he says. I strongly DISAGREE! John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (KJV) Acts 4:10-12 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (KJV)

A comment by David J. Stewart, webservant of www.Jesus-is-Savior.com... "John Hagee is a false prophet, working for the New World Order gang. Hagee teaches a heresy known as "Zionism." Religious Zionism teaches that God has a separate covenant with Israel and another for the Gentile Church. This is unbiblical and is sometimes called a "Dual Covenant."

Hagee stated to the Houston Chronicle that he believes Jews have a special covenant with God and do not need to come to the cross for salvation. According to Hagee Jews don't need to be born-again. Mr. Hagee told the Texas newspaper: "I believe that every Jewish person who lives in the light of the Torah, which is the word of God, has a relationship with God and will come to redemption" (Houston Chronicle, April 30, 1988).

The Houston Chronicle newspaper then quoted Hagee's own shocking words... "I'm not trying to convert the Jewish people to the Christian faith... In fact, trying to convert Jews is a waste of time. Jews already have a covenant with God and that has never been replaced by Christianity." (Houston Chronicle, April 30, 1988, sec, 6, pg. 1).

If you have read any of my articles, you know how I feel about the Jews. See our articles about Israel on www.judgmentcoming.org/j_c_israel.htm. I love the Jewish people, but they will spend eternity in the Lake of Fire (Rev.20:15), the same as any Gentile who rejects Jesus as the Christ (Messiah). Any Christian Jew will back me up on this.

Hagee states: "All people will gain entrance into heaven through Christ. The question is one of timing." This, to me, is Hagee speaking out of both sides of his mouth! My question: When Hagee says "all people will gain entrance into heaven through Christ," . . . is he advocating universalism . . . meaning that he believes all people Jews and Gentiles . . . will be saved? Also see our articles on "Universalism." www.lastdaysprophecy.org/L_D_f_d_universalism.htm

OR . . . does Hagee believe that ALL individual Jews will be saved? Either way, both of these positions are in wrong Biblically . . . but the latter is more consistent with his other statements.

Romans 11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: (KJV) . . . Israel, here, from the context, must mean Israel . . . the nation as a whole. The Jews, as a people, are now rejected by God, but they are to be restored. As I see it, their rejection, although national, does NOT include the rejection of every individual, because there certainly are Jews who have been born again (John 1:12-13; 3:5-7).

I believe that Israel's restoration, also national, need not be thought to include the salvation of every individual Jew, but the nation as a whole. By rejecting Christ and His Gospel, and by their anger at its being preached to the Gentiles, the Jews are enemies to God. BUT . . . they are still to be favored because of their godly fathers. Even though at present they are enemies to the Gospel and for their hatred to the Gentiles; yet, when God's time comes, that enmity will no longer exist, and God's love to their fathers will be remembered. True grace does not confine God's favor. My humble opinion.

I was privileged to have known Charles Halff (now deceased), the founder of the Christian Jew Foundation in San Antonio, Texas. Through letters to him years ago, I considered him a friend and a TRUE brother in Christ. I still have his letter giving me permission to use anything their ministry published, knowing that I was trying to reach lost souls for Christ (Messiah) . . . Jews or Gentiles! He said "If anything we have can help you, use it." His booklet on how he became a Christian really touched my heart.

Since Hagee believes that it is a waste of time trying to convert Jews, then is he implying that even if they are not currently saved, God will eventually save all Jewish keepers of the Law . . . past, present, and future . . . at some future point? Now, I have more questions: In my humble opinion, HOW can all the Jews keep the Law, when NO one but Jesus ever kept it? And WHY did Jesus go to the cross? Wasn't it because God knew we could NOT keep the Law? And since Jesus, are we not now under GRACE and NOT the Law? Romans 6:14-15 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. (KJV)

Israel had a responsibility to respond to the Gospel, but they rejected it. Romans 10:19-21 But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you. 20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me. 21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people. (KJV) . . . Did they fail to understand? NO! Israel has simply become disobedient through unbelief. Romans 11:30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief: (KJV) Because of that, God has reached out to the Gentiles with the Gospel of Christ! One day, Israel shall see her great error! Zechariah 12:10-11 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. 11 In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon. (KJV)

The Law, revealed to and through the Jews, was meant to be "our schoolmaster" to lead us to Christ (Gal.3:24-25) that we might be justified by faith (Rom.5:1). But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. Galatians 3:28-29 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. (KJV)

To be saved, a person . . . be they Jew or Gentile . . . must turn to Christ (John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Rom. 10:9-13) who is "the end of the law for righteousness for everyone who believes" (Rom. 10:4). When Hagee states that the "message of the gospel was from Israel, not to Israel," he discourages Christians from sharing the Good News with unsaved Jews who, like everyone else, have a desperate need of the Gospel IF they want to spend eternity with God in Heaven.

Hagee’s web site tells us that his “vision is for world evangelism. The burning passion of his heart is to win the lost to Jesus Christ in America and around the world.” That statement is not altogether true since he will not evangelize Jews and teaches salvation on another basis than the Gospel for the Jewish people. BEWARE!!!

???The Reluctant Messiah???

According to Hagee, "The [Jewish] people wanted Him to be their Messiah, but He absolutely refused," states Hagee. "The Jews were not rejecting Jesus as Messiah, it was Jesus who was refusing to be the Messiah to the Jews!" This is absolute BLASPHEMY!

In response to Jesus' question, "Who do you say I am?" (Mat. 16:15), Peter answered, "You are the Christ [Messiah]" (v. 16). Surely, if that Jewish apostle been wrong, Jesus most certainly would have corrected him immediately . . . BUT instead, Peter received the Lord's blessing (v. 17).

Hagee's view is clearly shown to be false by the fact that Jesus Himself said, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel". Matthew 15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. (KJV) John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.(KJV) . . . The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus' own people, the Jews, rejected Him, and NOT the other way around.

John Hagee is a false teacher who denies the Lord who bought him, because John Hagee denies His Holy Word. He denies Genesis 1:1-31; Exodus 20:11; 31:17; Matthew 5:3; Philippians 2:3; 2 John 9; Jude 3; 1 Timothy 6:3-5; Revelation 20; etc., etc. Anyone who denies God's Word, denies Jesus Christ, because Jesus IS the Word (John 1:1), the very word of God (Hebrews 4:12-13; Revelation 19:13).
